Program Notes
"The music from Die Kunst der Fuge reminded me of ruins and other remains of the past, which we label as sacred but which decay and disintegrate at the same time. I see Bach's composition, around which I work, as well as such a relic and imagine how the music will fare in the future. We have loved Bach's compositions for hundreds of years and will continue to do so for hundreds of years to come, but how will it be performed and with what instrumentation? In my choreography I also want to answer the question of what can remain of the human body in space. My choreography falls into two parts: the first part is about the past, the second about the future. In part 1 we hear the classic arrangement. The musicians and their instruments, which are sometimes centuries old, represent what has been. In part 2 we hear the same music but edited by the software on my computer, an electronic version of the same piece that will sound on stage by speakers."
